As an MD native who grew up in the DC suburbs and spent a good chunk of my adult life over in the Baltimore metro, I moved to the Frederick area in 2023 and fell in love! The people. The food. The activities. Market Street, Carroll Creek. Nonstop festivals, fairs, and events in the City & County. All the nearby hiking and nature. All of it.
The only thing is that meeting platonic adult friends outside of work to just hang out with and have fun with can be tough for anyone, especially LGBTQ+ folks and remote workers. Lots to do, but not necessarily people to do them. No "third place". TFC does a lot of amazing community outreach work. The Lodge can be a lot of fun on weekends, but it's a bit far. Other than that, there are a few disparate LGBTQ+ groups I met some cool people at. AND...
There is just still something missing. People who are craving greater community and connection. Keen to do recreational activities with people they can "just be" around. A weekly social is an important part of that; it's an anchor point, but I don't want it to be the focal point. I want to spread the love. I want this group to be that "third place" that branches off to other fun activities. And I want to make sure we spread the love and support our small businsesses along the way.
Stuff like just meeting up for a walk around Baker Park and grabbing brunch. Enjoying a $7 Tuesday movie night at Warehouse Cinemas. Enjoying a low-key game night. Checking out a local hiking trail. Low to no-cost stuff people of all ages and activity levels can enjoy. That's my vision, and I can't wait to bring it to life with you!
